Love her, or hate her, it appears that the First Lady is finally stepping up to the plate. Today, she has made ‘surprise’ visits to two detention centers in Texas. And, according to her staff, she has been ‘making her opinion known’ to the President. That opinion? Keep families together.
Immigrant children, separated from their parents, have been sent to New York. Members of the Poor People’s Campaign are on site. The video is live at the time of this posting.
I am saddened by the lack of attention the separation of immigrant children from their parents is recieving from our candidates. Those people who do not speak up are complicit. (If we must hold feet to the fire BEFORE the general election, then what must we do AFTER)?
Jackson Proskow, the Washington Bureau Chief of Global News, spoke with the former head of US Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was told that hundreds of the children who have been separated from their parents will never be reunited with those parents. They will be “lost in the system.” This is, of course, what so many of us also believe. We are witnessing the systematic kidnapping of refugee children, perpetrated by our nation. We must continue to fight against this tragedy. Travel if you can, organize or attend marches, and continue to speak out. This is not a political issue. It is about the children.
I would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all the supporters, activists, volunteers, and staff of this campaign. You worked hard, and while we are all disappointed with the election results, we can continue the great work that we have started. We will continue to strive toward, and advocate for, economic equality, social justice, healthcare rights, veteran and indigenous rights, and so much more. I am currently looking into various options so that we can move forward together.
