Florence Finch, highly decorated Coast Guard Veteran will be laid to rest with full military honors. I am proud to have served in the same branch as this brave American. We are a people of all races, creeds and colors…and immigration status. Florence earned the Medal of Freedom, known today as the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest honor given to a civilian. During WWII, prior to her enlistment in the CG, she took part in the Philippines Resistance against Japan, and aided captured soldiers. When she was later captured, she endured torture in an effort to extract information about the Resistance. She did not break. She is a true American hero.
